Thank you for visiting Laura G. Rodriguez Elementary school website. We hope that Rodriguez Elementary is the choice for you and your child. I am Claudia E. Jordan and I will to be your principal. Our school opened in 2007 and we are in our 14th year. Every year when we graduate our 5th graders, its a beautiful reminder of how we have been along the journey with your child and your family. We have seen many siblings graduate and have had to say goodbye not just with them but with you. Its a family affair at Rodriguez. It's wonderful see our former students return and share their middle and high school experiences. The beginning story at Kinder does not end there. We want to cultivate and grow their learning. Sra. Laura would be proud and humbled how our school has grown. Our namesake was a pillar of the Logan Heights community and emulated the spirit of the barrio. We wish that each of our students who enter these school doors goes out into the world in the future to make an extraordinaire impact on their community, barrio, and neighborhood. It makes for a better place to live, our children changing the future for the best.
Our foci this in the past was to continue our efforts in improving student's academic language, enhance their writing by having daily home journal writing, develop critical thinkers, number talk mathematicians, infuse technology and build scholarly behaviors as classroom communities and a school community. VAPA stated in 2019-20 so that each classroom receives a monthly 3 hour of learning in Art, Dance, and Theater. This year 2021-2022 we began the Literacy Accleration Program and are excited to continue it next year. Response to Intervention (RTI) has been implemented to support all students who need extra assistance in many content areas. We have seen students growing and thriving. We have strategically created a flexible model that will have teachers and students working closely within their areas of need. We will continue with these foci, refine them and evolve into a few more.
- Writing to increase stamina, voice and clarity
- Partnerships to develop strong academic talkers
- Critical thinking skills to strengthen their academic language base
- Scholarly behaviors that teach the principles of being an academic student
- Learning and developing our Algebraic Thinking through Number Talk 3rd-5th
Our goal continues to be to improve student achievement by leading and supporting the continuous improvement of instruction in order to facilitate children's academic success and well-being. Teachers and the principal continue to be engaged in ongoing professional development in literacy and mathematics and in collaborating as a team to maximize the communication among all community members, including students, parents, teaching staff, support staff, and business partners.
The long term goal of Rodriguez Elementary School is to build students up to be academically and scholarly ready to graduate from our District high schools and have the opportunity to attend a university.
Claudia E. Jordan
